KNOWING GOD (by Janine Mick Wills)
The goal of this blog post is for you (and me) to know God, either for the first time or to know Him better (If you have never accepted Christ as your personal Savior, please see, “How to Know You Have Eternal Life”).
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Philippians. 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
We should have such a relationship with God that we can call Him “Abba Father” (“Daddy”).
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
The following are a few tenets of which Christians hold. They are the bedrock of our Christianity. If someone asked, could you name them and verses to support your belief?
Christ and God are One in the same.
John 14:7-11 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Christ, the Word, is the Creator of all.
John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Christ not only created everything, everything is kept by Him.
Colossians 1: 16, 17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
2 Peter 3:10-12 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Our Christianity (what we believe) is based on faith.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Without belief in Christ, a person cannot see be saved.
John 3:17 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
There is a literal Hell (The following account is not a parable, or Jesus would have called it so).
Luke 16:22, 23 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
There is a literal Heaven.
John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Christ is coming back for His Church one day.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
The Bible is chockful of wonderful doctrines (teachings). These were just a few. Please add your own down below under “Comments”.
