I love to share my testimony. It points to a loving God, Who kept me as an unsaved person and then wooed me to His side. Eternity is not long enough to thank Him for stooping down to save this small, country girl from Ohio.

Though not reared in a Christian home, my mother wanted me and my siblings to attend church. Mommy wasn’t sure which denomination we should attend. So, she took me and one of my sisters to a church on one side town and my brother and my oldest sister to a church on the other side. Political correctness held nothing over my mother!

a nickel
A nickel was big money to me back in those days!

Each Sunday morning I skipped into Sunday school and dropped a nickel into the offering. I still remember the words to “Hear Those Pennies Dropping”. Though never taught Bible doctrine (teaching), I heard stories about Zacchaeus, David and Goliath, Adam and Eve, et al.

I stopped attending church as a teenager. More important things called, like braces, boyfriends, and if I would pass Algebra! I did not grace the door of another church until my junior year in high school. Jeff Wills, a member of the basketball team, invited me to church. I accepted his invitation because I thought him handsome and wanted to get to know him better (Now, after 38 years of marriage, I still believe the former and am working on the latter!) .

raised hands
I can raise my hand with assurance now. Can you?

At Jeff’s church, I heard the Gospel for the first time. At the end of the service, the pastor asked the congregation to indicate their salvation by an uplifted hand. I raised mine. I believed in God and knew the Christmas and Easter stories. Surely I would go to heaven one day.

But after attending church for several months and Jeff sharing salvation verses, I realized my unsaved condition. On March 9, 1975, I dropped onto my knees by my bedside and poured my heart out to God.

“Dear, Lord, I am the most miserable person on the face of this earth. If you don’t do something with my life, I am doomed.”

Though no one told me what or how to pray, that night I admitted my sinful state and accepted Christ’s payment on the cross for it. At that very moment, God made me His child and a joint-heir with His precious Son (John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name).

My life has never been the same. It can happen to you as well. If you’ve never asked Christ to save you, please visitHow to Know You Have Eternal Life for the plan of salvation.
